Overview

By the first quarter of 2023, it became evident that the global digital economy generally and the software engineering industry specifically were hit by a seismic shift driven by the “Generative AI” superpowers. Although the latest Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies indicated that the use of generative AI in software engineering is at its peak of the hype, the technology currently delivers its full potential of business value to software development enterprises. However, on the other hand, the evident risks became vivid immediately a few weeks after the early adoption trials. Hence, the CXOs need well rationalized strategies to move with caution in order to balance the great opportunities with the associated risks. Despite these risks, there is an enormous strategic potential for sustainable profitability for software enterprises, which can be achieved by injecting generative AI value-added products/services into the software development life cycle.
