 SECC at Cairo ICT 13-16 December 2015
 
SECC experts delivered two sessions about "A Glance at Open Data" and "TOGAF and COBIT: What's in For My Business?" during Cairo ICT 2015, the sessions were attended by 51 professionals.

The first session has been delivered during the second day of Cairo ICT 2015 Monday - December 14th by Ms. Enas Ashraf, the session was about "A Glance at Open Data" and it was attended by 25 professionals. Ms. Ashraf explained what is open data, the benefits and requirements.

On Tuesday - December 15th , the second session has been delivered by Ms. Sally Hassan and Mr. Yasser Ghanim, the session was about "TOGAF and COBIT: What's in For My Business?" and it was attended by 26 professionals.

 128 ICT Companies Participate at Egyptian Product Development by Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) Project 2015 Round.
 
Towards providing complete Innovative solutions to government entities, SECC signs agreements with 128 MSEs.

Since 2012 and until 2014, more than 320 ICT companies benefited from the project and developed 550 software products. The products covered different categories as education, ERP, tourism, health, portals, cloud tools mobiles and embedded.

 Open Data Institute (ODI) of UK Recognizes Two of SECC R&D Engineers as ODI Registered Trainers
 
The Open Data Institute (ODI) of UK recognized Dr. Haitham Hamza, Research & Development Department Manager, and Enas Ashraf, Senior Research & Development Engineer as "ODI Registered Trainers" in August 2015.

"ODI Registered Trainer" is a quality mark for trainers who have been assessed by the Open Data Institute (ODI) to train others on Open Data. Through a five-day intensive assessment process, SECC candidates proved their knowledge of Open Data that is applied to different domains; as well as their ability to apply the educational theory to create interactive training with good learning outcomes.

SECC joined ODI global network as "Cairo Node" in May 2015. Cairo Node is the first ODI node in Africa to offer training programs, workshops, and events to promote and enable value creation through open data in Egypt.

ODI is a non-profit organization founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Sir Nigel Shadbolt in UK with the goal of catalyzing the evolution of Open Data culture to create economic, environmental and social value. ODI helps unlock supply, generates demand, creates and disseminates knowledge to address local and global issues.

 SECC Signs Seven Service Agreements to Deliver CMMI Services to Government and Private Organizations
 
 
  1. The Information System and Computer Center of the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production signed a service agreement with SECC to obtain CMMI for Development Maturity Level 2.
  2. Commercial International Bank (CIB) signed a service agreement with SECC to obtain CMMI for Development Maturity Level 2.
  3. Core BPO Company signed a service agreement with SECC to obtain CMMI for Services Maturity Level 3.
  4. IT Fusion Company signed a service agreement with SECC to obtain CMMI for Development Maturity Level 2.
  5. Victory Link Company signed a service agreement with SECC to obtain CMMI for Development Maturity Level 2.
  6. Acme- Saicoies company signed a service agreement with SECC to obtain CMMI for Development Maturity Level 3.
  7. NTG company signed a service agreement with SECC to obtain CMMI for Development Maturity Level 3.

 SECC and Cairo University sign MOU to have the University adopt Open Source Software
 
SECC, being Egypt's focal point for Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), signed a memorandum of understanding with Cairo University to have the later benefit from SECC expertise in adopting Open Source Software; with the aim of enabling the university to continue with its long history in serving the community.

SECC will provide Cairo University with the technical expertise and best practices of open source software to execute its different projects; evaluate and test projects; and assist the university in raising awareness for the objectives of the projects and the provision of respective training needs.

 SECC Expands the Open Data Institute (ODI) Global Network to Africa
 
SECC has successfully passed a three-stage assessment process to join the Open Data Institute (ODI) global network as "Cairo Node". Cairo Node is the first ODI node in Africa to offer training programs, workshops, and events to promote and enable value creation through open data in Egypt. [Read more] During the assessment process, the ODI headquarter in London assessed the capability and experience of SECC, followed by a review for SECC open data business plan, and finally a panel discussion with worldwide experts in open data to present SECC vision and KPIs for adopting open data in Egypt.

The concept of Open Data refers to making data freely available to everyone to use and republish as they wish, without compromising privacy and security, in order to enable application developers and service providers to build valuable and innovative services that tackle societal challenges.

Overt the upcoming few months, ODI Cairo Node is planning several activities including training, workshops, events, and roundtables to explore, enable, and adopt open data in Egypt under the theme: "Open Data for Open Innovation".

The ODI is a non-profit organization founded by Sirs Tim Berners-Lee and Nigel Shadbolt in UK with the goal of catalyzing the evolution of Open Data culture to create economic, environmental and social value. It helps unlock supply, generates demand, creates and disseminates knowledge to address local and global issues.  IJSE Rebranded
 
SECC is pleased to announce the launch of the recently rebranded website of the International Journal of Software Engineering - IJSE and its new content. The IJSE provides a forum for archiving and disseminating state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice in all areas of software engineering. The journal accepts new and significant papers from academia and industry in the various subjects of software engineering. IJSE embraces an Open Access Policy permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute articles or use them for any other lawful purpose.

The new look website also offers a section with statistics and on how manuscripts should be submitted. Following the successful re-brand, IJSE issue (Volume 8 -No.1) has been released.  SECC is launching for the first time in Egypt the Personal Software Process Fundamentals
 
SECC is launching for the first time in Egypt the Personal Software Process Fundamentals, which is a world class training course, you can attend the course while studying the program on Carnegie Mellon University "CMU" Online Education System. Registrants can become Certified PSP Engineer from Carnegie Mellon University and have their name listed on the #1 institute specialized in software engineering, the Software Engineering Institute (SEI).

SPI for SMEs New Round Launched with 12 participating Companies
 
On 16 March 2015, SECC held the Kick-off Meeting of the 11th Round of the Software Process Improvement for SMEs Program 2015 with 12 participating companies ranging from micro, small to medium sized companies.

Over the 9 past years, SECC has introduced its SPI for SMEs program aiming at helping Egyptian IT companies to achieve maturity and business success through improving software development and service delivery processes at low cost, with minimal risk and highest flexibility. The program is supported by the SPIG which is an adaptable model of excellence in software development based on the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), which encourages SMEs to follow a coherent process for software development. SPIG contains guidelines, procedures, and templates to facilitate software process improvement.

The program covers areas such as Software Development & Management, Service operation & management, Configuration Management, Quality Assurance and Peer Review. It includes providing training (11 days), consultation (12 Visits) and final assessment for a period of 8 months only.

Session Succeed and Grow your Business in Though Times
 
SECC organized a Practical Business Session on Succeed & Grow Your Business in Tough Times on 17 Feb. 2015 at Triumph Hotel, Heliopolis that was attended by 80+ professionals.

During the session three presentations, one of which was presented by IT Fusion company about its experience with SECC's SPIG Service; together with a technical workshop on "Enhance Project Visibility and Team Communication" were delivered.

Attendees interaction was very high and SECC received a very good feedback about the content of the workshop and how it related to the business of the attendees.

The session aimed at helping the attendees to learn how to act differently to overcome business challenges; explore SECC approach to diagnose the roadblocks and ease their path to success; customize their software production/IT services processes with different flavors (i.e. Agile, lean, ITSM....etc.); and build their foundation towards CMMI accreditation for strong international presence

Training and certification services on The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF 9.1) for SECC consultants
 
Knotion, the company that has been awarded the tender of TOGAF 9.1 framework, has finalized last week the capacity building of 12 SECC Consultants on TOGAF 9.1 Level 1 and Level 2. In early March 2015, it is expected that another round of TOGAF 9.1 Level 1 and Level 2 will be held to include also ICT professionals from the industry.

SECC R&D Department successfully reappraised at CMMI-DEV Level 2
 
SECC is pleased to announce that its R&D Department has been reappraised at Maturity Level 2 of the CMMI Institute's Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)® for Development. The first appraisal for Maturity Level 2 was achieved in December 2011. This latest appraisal clearly demonstrates the department's focus and dedication to its quality program.

CMMI is a process improvement approach organizations use to define and implement effective processes that ultimately improve their performance. A maturity level 2 rating indicates the organization is performing at a "managed" level. At this level, projects follow processes that are planned and executed in accordance with policy, and the projects: employ skilled people who have adequate resources to produce controlled outputs; involve relevant stakeholders; are monitored, controlled, and reviewed; and are evaluated for adherence to their process descriptions.

The appraisal followed the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) v1.3 method and is based on CMMI-DEV v1.3 for Maturity Level 2. Pre-appraisal began November 2014, and formal appraisal was in January 2015.

R&D Department is committed to CMMI and process management because it is constantly changing, constantly adapting, continuously improving, and continuously supporting the success of SECC at large.

First IoT Egypt Forum Steering Committee meeting
 
SECC organized the first meeting for the Internet of Things (IoT) Egypt Forum steering committee on January 27th 2015 at ITIDA premises, to discuss the ways to develop the Roadmap for IoT development and deployment as well as to facilitate collaboration between all relevant stakeholders to build a groundwork for future development and sustainability for IoT in Egypt

The forum also aims to exploiting IoT to solve societal and economical challenges in Egypt. The steering committee consists of a wide range of professionals from the Government Academia and Industry.

"The Completion Ceremony of Activate ICT Product Development by Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) Project 2014" - 20 January 2015 at Convention Center, Smart Village
 
Under the auspices and presence of the H. E. Eng. Atef Helmy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, SECC of ITIDA held the completion ceremony of the third round of Activate ICT Product Development by Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) Project for year 2014 on 20 Jan. 2015 at Smart Village Convention Center.

The event was inaugurated by speeches from Dr. Hossam Ossman, ITIDA VP and SECC Chairman, Eng. Hussein El Gueretly, ITIDA CEO and an important word from H. E. Eng. Atef Helmy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology about the importance of micro and small innovative ideas for products and new applications software, and its impact on the economy at large leaving the floor to questions from the attending companies.

Attended by over 304 professionals, the event covered a presentation about the e-marketing place and 5 different success stories among the top participating companies along with the distribution of 166 Certificates of Completion for the successfully admitted companies.

An announcement for the top 10 companies was also made along with a special promotion offered by SECC to provide them with discounted prices on SOA and Disciplined Agility services. Additionally, the SPI for SMEs program was offered to the 166 companies at a 40% discounted rate.
